Basic Information

Description: We are a mixed a cappella group of 14 singers spanning the entire Bay Area, all of whom are in their 20s and 30s. Most singers have several years of singing and/or musical experience with either a previous a cappella group or equivalent. The group is laid back in attitude but serious about making great music. We rehearse 2 hours per week for most months of the year, and have about 4-5 concerts per year, mostly for non-profits.
Web Address: www.keevasf.com
Year Estab: 2005
Mission: Keeva SF performs globally-inspired vocal music for the greater Bay Area community, with a special emphasis on concerts for non-profit organizations. We strive to be a place where busy professionals can have the satisfaction of working on inspiring and fun music with other like-minded individuals.
Emphasis: We focus on globally-inspired music. As an example, our current repertoire includes vocal music from the following sources:

New Zealand
South Africa
Ireland
US (folk)
US (spirituals)
India
Zimbabwe
Cuba
Hungary

Skills Required : Our members all have experience singing. Sight reading is NOT necessary, but musicality and a good voice are a must.
Auditions: Scheduled on a rolling basis throughout the year

Dress: Varies depending on the concert.
Rehearsals: Specific time every week is based on availability, but usually Sunday nights between 6pm and 8pm in an accessible San Francisco location (since many members commute to the rehearsal). Typically 8 rehearsals per concert or set of concerts. We rehearse most weeks of the year with a break in December/January and lighter schedule during the summer.

History:

Over dinner in 2005, a group of former a cappella singers was lamenting the lack of a group in San Francisco that would perform high quality music without extensive rehearsals and the formal rigors of other larger groups.  Thus, Keeva SF was born!
