Basic Information

Description: The Sacramento Women's Chorus is a non-profit group of diverse women who are building friendships and community through our love of music, dedication to musical excellence, and commitment to performing music which reflects the lives of all women.

We welcome adult women of all ethnicities, cultures, sexual orientations, physical abilities, and stages of life.

We are an established chorus looking to expand our membership. Please come attend a rehearsal, meet our friendly chorus members, raise your voice in song...

Year Estab: 1985
Mission: We perform on behalf of all women, the environment, peace, social justice, tolerance, LGBTI equality, and the celebration of diversity.
Emphasis: We sing in four parts with piano accompaniment. Solo parts are sometimes offered.
Size: 25-35 singers
Concerts/Year: In a normal year, we prepare two concerts - one in the Spring and one in the late Fall. In addition, we respond to various invitations from community
Skills Required : Members must be able to match pitch, learn a part and sing with a section. Reading music is not required. Prior experience singing is desirable, but
Auditions: We are an established chorus looking to expand our membership. Please come attend a rehearsal, meet our friendly chorus members, raise your voice in song. When you decide that this is the place for you, you will meet with the musical director to determine the place where you will be the most comfortable.
Dues: Monthly. Sliding scale determined with the assistance of the Treasurer. $15/yr music fee, non-refundable.
Dress: Concert wear is usually black slacks, black blouses, and colorful neck scarves. The scarves are provided by the chorus. More casual wear may be suggested for informal appearances, especially out-of-doors in the summer.
Rehearsals: Please join us any Monday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church. Please note: We rent rehearsal space at the First Christian Church; we are not a religious choir and are not affiliated with the church. 3901 Folsom Blvd, corner of 39th and Folsom.

History:

New Musical Director, Fall 2010.  Robin  Richie. 

Robin Richie has been involved in directing and singing with community choruses for more than 25 years. She holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph and a Master of Music Degree from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati.  She has directed and coached award winning Sweet Adeline choruses all over the country. She is a national clinician for young men and womens choruses. As a performer she continues to sing with Sacramento stage companies.  She is an instrumental music teacher for the Rocklin Unified Schools. Robin is a chapter leader for the Marriage Equality USA campaign. She and her wife, Dru, live with and are being raised by two teenagers, three dogs, one cat and a parakeet. Robin is excited to be starting her association with the Sacramento Womens Chorus.
