Basic Information

Description: This is an amateur, community, special interest chorus, open to the general public, by audition only.

Year Estab: 1988
Mission: To perform choral repertoire of high calibre with priority given to little known or seldom performed works of Russian and Eastern European composers.
Emphasis: Mostly a cappella works of Russian, Soviet and Eastern European composers of the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
Size: Maximum of 28 and perhaps fewer
Concerts/Year: 10
Auditions: Yes, at Room 450, Cabrillo College, Aptos. Auditions are held in August and January. They will include sight-reading, scales, blending, solo song (unaccompanied), tonal memory, etc. Group size is limited to 28 or fewer singers.
Dues: $40 per year (tuition to Cabrillo College.)
Dress: Women: black long dresses; Men: tux with black tie.
Rehearsals: Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Cabrillo College, 6500 Soquel Drive , Aptos

Comments: 4 television broadcasts; singing the National Anthem for a San Francisco Giants baseball game; 4 appearances on stage at Disneyland; performance with American Boy Choir at Carnation Plaza in Saltillo, Mexico; 12 annual tours; hosting guest groups in this area, such as the Young Swede Folk Music and The Mercer Island Children's Choir; a White House appearance in 1987; a memorable few days at the Grand Lake Performing Arts Camp, and annual Christmas Tree-Lightings in the Bay Area.
