Mission: The mission and goals of the Camerata Singers of Monterey County continue to be:
1. to give experienced choral singers an opportunity to continue and further their musical education through the study and performance of a high standard of choral literature under the direction of Dr. Vah?© Aslanian. Additional learning for the singers comes from both rehearsing and performing with professional musicians who are highly trained vocal soloists and orchestral players;
2. to enhance the quality of life and contribute to the educational, ethnic development and cultural potential of the people of Monterey County and environs through the media of choral music. In our attempt to contribute to these goals the Camerata Singers have included entire programs of Spanish, French, Italian, Jewish, as well as American, music;
3. of special educational value and cultural development of both the singers and the audiences is the unusual choral music and the high quality of the repertoire selected by Dr. Aslanian. The opportunity to teach and to learn about and to hear and enjoy this music is an integral part of the philosophy of the Camerata Singers;
4. our interest in the youth of our community is shown by providing complimentary tickets to music departments of local high schools and by our Educational Outreach programs for high school singers.
Emphasis: The repertoire includes a wide variety of the standard classical choral music from the Renaissance, baroque, Classic, Romantic and 20th century periods. Since Dr. Aslanian is a specialist in Baroque choral music and has edited a number of works by Leonardo Leo for performance by the Camerata Singers, this may account for a larger emphasis on the music of the Baroque period.
