Basic Information

Description: This is an amateur, community, special interest chorus, open to the general public. Of the over 100 members, typically one-third will register for college credit, two-thirds general public. If asked, only about 10% would really need " college credit.
Masterworks Chorale - MUS 60 ABC

This is an intermediate to advanced level choir in which each singer will learn and perform challenging choral literature. The class may consist of a combination of the following activities: full group rehearsals, sectionals, lectures, demonstrations, writing, working with guest clinicians, small group singing tests, written assignments, and public performances. Singers will have the opportunity to sing using correct vocal habits; read, write, interpret, and execute basic musical notation; perform choral literature within the classical and world music idioms; and perform independently within a large choral ensemble. "

Mission: To perform major masterworks with professional orchestra at least twice a year, providing this opportunity for a broad cross section of area residents and college students.
Emphasis: Major masterworks with orchestra twice a year; class section of choral literature one concert, for example, pops concert, or an American theme concert.

Auditions: Yes, held at West Valley College by arrangement during the day or evening, or on the first scheduled rehearsal. They are held once in September and once in January. Auditons include sight-reading and vocalizing.
Dues: $25 per half eyar
Dress: Black tuxedos and evening dresses
Rehearsals: Monday, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., West Valley College Music Department Choral Laboratory, 14000 Fruitvale Avenue, Saratoga
