Basic Information

Description: This is an amateur, community chorus, open to the generalpublic. The size of the chorus is limited due to costuming, size of stage,and the nature of the production (calling for larger or smaller choruses).

Mission: The production of grand opera. West Bay Opera is in its 43rd year in Palo Alto. We produce our operas with full sets, costumes and orchestra. Internationally known and acclaimed directors and conductors are most often used. Most principal singers are young amateur and professional people, who perform in a number of Bay Area opera and musical productions. Many of our singers have gone on to careers in opera in the big houses of the world.
Emphasis: Opera chorus as integrated in the opera production.
Size: Usually 25 to 30
Concerts/Year: Three productions per year with six shows of each
Auditions: Yes, only if the size of the chorus is a problem. Auditions are held early in each production. Auditions require nothing special--usually just vocalizing or singing a few lines.
Dues: No
Dress: Opera costume
Rehearsals: Usually Wednesday evenings, plus some Friday evenings and/or Saturdays as the opening gets near. Every night during tech week., 7:30 p.m.to 10:30 p.m., West Bay Opera/Holt Building, 221 Lambert Street, Palo Alto
