Description: This is a volunteer chorus, open to the general public.

Mission: The San Francisco Bach Choir sings rarely performed choral works and reinterprets the established repertoire to promote a deeper appreciation of the music by the choir members and audiences throughout the greater Bay Area. Our innovative programming emphasizes the historical and cultural contextof the works, using appropriate choral styles and period instruments.
Emphasis: 16th through 18th century composers primarily from the North-German baroque, including Bach, Handel, Praetorius, Sch?Âștz and their contemporaries, with an occasional excursion into earlier and later periods and traditions.
Size: 85-100
Concerts/Year: Four plus.
Auditions: Yes. Based on sight-reading, intonation and blend. Need to demonstrate you can learn the music easily on your own without using rehearsal time for note practice.

Related Groups: Smaller chamber group at the discretion of the conductor, based on members from the larger choir. Separate auditions are required.

Comments: In addition to programming the standard choral masterworks, the musical director researches, edits and prepares numerous scores for the choir featuring rare music drawn from the North-German baroque period. Antiphonal singing is a specialty of the choir."
