Basic Information

Description: This is a community, recreational, special interest, women's chorus, open to the general public. Membership is open to women age 14 and older. Members include business and professional women, homemakers, senior citizens, and students.

Mission: To encourage the enjoyment and preservation of barbershop harmony music through education and performances in the community.
Emphasis: A cappella, barbershop harmony style, a uniquely American music form, with four-part harmony. Although the chorus sings many songs that can be categorized as strictly barbershop, the chorus puts a contemporary spin on the traditional notion of barbershop. The chorus perfomrs music made popular by such artists as The Manhattan Transfer, The Beach Boys, Stevie Wonder, and, Gloria E

Concerts/Year: 5-10 public, numerous private events, plus several
Auditions: Yes. Auditions are held at the chorus rehearsal site on Thursday evenings following chorus rehearsals. Pre-auditions provide feedback for prospective member before actual audition. Auditions are held after the prospective mewmber fulfills the visiting requirements. Audition includes singing two chorus songs (in the selected voice part) in a quartet, singing at least one page from memory.
Dues: $16 per month for chapter dues, plus $80 per year

Comments: The chorus offers workshops in the art of singing a cappella music in the barbershop harmony style. Classes also provide opportunities to learn vocal production skills. The chorus also participates with area high schools to present the young women in harmony program, which introduces barbershop harmony to young women."
