Basic Information

Description: This is a community youth chorus, dedicated to music education, open to young people between the ages of 14 and 21. No student who is 14 to 21 years and able to make the commitment of time necessary for membership is turned away from the Oakland Youth Chorus. There is a place for singers of every level in the chorus.

Mission: The mission of the Oakland Youth Chorus is to provide multicultural youth, ages 14-21, with professionally-directed training that advances the choral artform by developing programming and new audiences for vocal music reflective of America's diverse cultural heritage.
Emphasis: Music of four centuries and a diversity of global roots with a wide variety of styles emphasizing premieres, commissions, new arrangements and editions by multicultural composers (including Oakland Youth Chorus staff.)
Size: 100: Vocal Motion, 20; Concert Chorus, 55; Ensemb
Concerts/Year: 4--Full chorus productions; free commuinty concert
Auditions: Yes, held at the First Presbyterian Church, 2619 Broadway, Oakland (our home base), in September and January (for CONCERT CHORUS and ENSEMBLE CHORUS.)
Dues: $350 per semester. We dohave an extensive scholar
Dress: Solid multicolored shirts with black bottoms (costume varies from group to group within Oakland Youth Chorus.)
Rehearsals: Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (CONCERT CHORUS; ENSEMBLE CHORUS); 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (VOCAL MOTION), First Presbyterian Church, 2619 Broadway, Oakland
