The Oakland German Men's Choir - or Männerchor - is rich in history and tradition. Its origins go back to October 15, 1948.

At that time German-speaking immigrants in the Bay Area came together at the German Pioneer House in Oakland, California, and founded the Oakland Männerchor, a group of men devoted to preserving and cultivating German heritage through song.

The Männerchor's first performance, under the direction of Willy Schwett, took place one year later with 34 singers. Today, more than 50 years later, with new faces and voices, the choir continues to perform at concerts throughout the Bay Area. They have been under the direction of Dr. Dietrich Erbeling now for over 25 years.
