Description: This is a semi-professional, community chorus, open to the general public.

Mission: An interfaith, multi-racial choir that expresses unity in diversity " through gospel music. "
Emphasis: Traditional through contemporary gospel, including spirituals and occasionally other music.

Concerts/Year: 2 per month
Auditions: Yes. Generally once per year in February. Call (510) 3938 to be put on list to be notified. Those auditioning should have strong vocal skills and be able to learn by ear. Auditionee sings a song of his/her choice, gospel or secular a cappella or bring music for accompanist; intervals will also be sung.
Dues: $20 per month. (Scholarships available.)

Rehearsals: Monday, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Imani Community Church, 3300 MacArthur Avenue, Oakland

Comments: Musicians: Ben Heveroh (keyboard); Rahsaan Ellison (organ, keyboards); Juan Forte (drums); David Belove (bass). We sing both a cappella and with our band. We don't sing from written music; singers must have good ears " and ability to memorize a very large repertoire. Members represent diverse religious faiths, beliefs, and ethnic groups. We love going into churches of all ethnic and religious persuasions and showing how a mixed group like ours, in today's troubled and fragmented society, spreads joy and unity. We also sing at many festivals, some television shows, and tour domestically or internationally each year. Television program about the choir: Circle of Friends. KGO-TV. 1994-1995.
