History: From website (3/3008): The Lighthouse Singers of Marin County, under the direction of the internationally renowned Dr. Helen J. H. Stephens, and Associate Director, Deborah Thomson is an interfaith community choir performing contemporary and traditional black gospel music. The choir has excited audiences throughout the United States in multi-faith and multi-racial church services, inspirational gospel workshops, national gospel conventions, as well as community service performances. The Lighthouse Singers have been acclaimed for their beautiful harmonies, their powerfully rich sound and their gift of inspiration. These qualities earned the Lighthouse Singers honors for Most Promising Choir, Best Community Choir and best performance at the Gospel Academy Awards, held each year at the famous Paramount Theater in Oakland. Nearing their 25th anniversary, The Lighthouse Singers are long standing members of the Northern California Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. They have attended many of the GMWA's national conventions over the years where their performance is always eagerly anticipated. Each June, The Lighthouse Singers host an annual Gospel Music Workshop and Concert of their own in Marin County, introducing hundreds of participants to the joys of worship through song. The Lighthouse Singers perform for all denominations of churches, community outreach programs, weddings, memorial services, local and national music and arts festivals, and their own reunion and Christmas concerts. The Lighthouse Singers have two recordings to their credit, Lighthouse Sings the Music of Steven Roberts and See the Glorious Light. The Choir is supported by pledges from its membership and from contributions generated by churches, individuals and businesses. The Choir's services are available to the community at large.
Comments: The Lighthouse Singers offer a gospel music workshop once a year in June--four days of rehearsals with a concert on the fifth night.
