Basic Information

Description: A semi-professional, mixed voice, chamber choir, open to the general public by audition, with singers ranging in age from early 20s to over 50. Each season, the Choral Artists feature 3 works each by their Composer-In-Residence and Composer-In-Not-Residence, and works by 1-3 winners of their New Voices competition for composers under age 30, as well as masterpieces of the last 600 years. Emphasis is on a cappella.

Mission: To serve the community of singers, composers, and listeners who are dedicated to choral chamber music of the highest quality, and to foster the creation of new choral music.
Emphasis: Choral masterpieces of all periods, with an emphasis on contemporary works and world premieres.
Size: 24 singers
Concerts/Year: 3 concert sets, 9-12 performances; typically also some guest appearances, generally in the Bay Area.
Skills Required : Extensive choral experience, solo potential, and excellent reading and musicianship skills, plus dedication to the art of the chamber ensemble.
Auditions: Auditions are held in San Francisco in June, August, and by appointment. To request an audition, please send an email with a brief resume to auditions@sfca.org. The audition includes vocalizing, assessment of vocal instrument and aural skills, tonal and atonal sight-reading, 2 prepared works of contrasting style and language.
Dress: Typically concert black with jewel tone tops.
Rehearsals: Selected Mondays, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., San Francisco
