CALIFORNIA REDWOOD CHORALE – biography

The California Redwood Chorale was founded in 2006.

We are a mixed chorus of singers from the Bay Area, north of San Francisco. We thrive on the exciting combination of singing and traveling. We call ourselves “Music Diplomats”!

Our first trip was to Hungary in 2007. In the summer of 2008, we traveled to British Columbia, Canada to participate in the International Choral Kathaumixw. We made a return to trip to Hungary in the summer of 2010, singing Kodaly’s “Missa Brevis” in Budapest with the great Monteverdi Chorus of Budapest in the historic Mathias Church. Our next trip was to Verona, Italy in April 2012 to participate in Verona’s International Choral Festival. From there we went to Florence to give a concert. In January 2014, the California Redwood Chorale traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico, where we performed at the prestigious Conservatory of Music. In June, 2015, our third trip to Hungary will include a few days in Vienna where we will perform Rutter’s “Requiem” in St. Stephen’s Cathedral. In   Budapest, we will perform the “Requiem” in the historic Matthias Church. In the Vienna and Budapest concerts, we will be joined by our choral friends, the Monteverdi Chorus of Budapest.

The California Redwood Chorale has performed locally in concert halls, churches, museums, historic buildings, and even wineries.

Robert Hazelrigg, conductor and John Hazelrigg, accompanist are brothers who have guided us for the last several years. Robert Hazelrigg has been our director since the fall of 2010.
